K-Rino ft. T-Mack | "Long Lost Daddy" (by andy on 01/05/2009)
There's so many thought-provoking tracks on K-Rino's Blood Doctrine that it was hard to pick one to share. "The Debate" pits creationism against evolution, "Past, Present & Future" finds K staring down young and old versions of himself, and "Long Lost Daddy" is the first meeting with a son he didn't know existed. So basically, don't sleep on this Houston legend's new album. Direct Link
  Esoteric | "1989"   (by andy on 01/05/2009)
Even if you're not a fan or avid listener of Esoteric, he deserves respect for constantly reinventing himself. Not just as an artist or in terms of creative direction, but the MC half of 7L & Esoteric has evolved into a formidable producer in his own right. Serve or Suffer is Eso's first crack at an instrumental release. Read more about the project HERE. Direct Link
Gerald Walker | "Midwest Repping (Big Ten Anthem)"   (by KendredSpirit on 01/04/2009)
Gerald Walker is a Chicago MC who has been featured on AOR in the past but has been relatively quiet since then...or at least from what I've seen. This joint is pretty cool in its own right but I really decided to put it up when I heard Gerald spit, "I don't fuck with Jesse Jackson." I always knew it wasn't just me. Direct Link
Freeway ft. Hezekiah | "As I Ever Been (Produced by Oddisee)"   (by Rewd on 01/04/2009)
The Philly Freezer teams up with Hezekiah? This is collaboration I never saw coming. Even though Freeway uses another “Jackie Joyner-Kersee” reference for the 100th time it’s still nice to see Philly hip hop connecting like this. Direct Link
Brooklyn Academy ft. Vinnie Paz | "I Told You"   (by Rewd on 01/04/2009)
Mr. Metaphor, Pumpkinhead and Block McCloud have been holding down N.Y. hip-hop for some time now.  Here’s a new song featuring JMT front man Vinnie Paz to keep everyone updated. Direct Link
Idle Warship | "Try It On" (by Rewd on 01/03/2009)
Idle Warship is starting the new calendar with the launch of http://www.yearoftheblacksmith.com. This new track is over Busta's "How We Do It Over Here" beat from The Big Bang, produced by Dr. Dre. If you need a refresher Idle Warship consists of Talib Kweli, Res & Graph Nobel.  I have to admit this goes hard. Direct Link
Reks | "System" (by KendredSpirit on 01/02/2009)
I really hate it when an artist piggybacks off the success of a particular album from their catalogue by adding the words "More" and/or "Still." Aside from it just being corny in general, a lot of times the material doesn't make the grade. Perfect example: Ghostface Killah's More Fish. However, after listening to "System," it's possible that the only corny aspect of Reks' upcoming More Grey Hairs will be the name. Direct Link
Ilyas ft. Donwill & Von Pea | "Real Hip Hop Don't Die"   (by KendredSpirit on 01/02/2009)
This is essentially a Tanya Morgan joint only this one holds the distinction of being featured on the upcoming Ilyas solo album, The Prelude, which drops January 17th. We at AOR gotta start the new year off right and make sure the first posted joint of the new year is a good one. Direct Link
iCON the Mic King | " Run For Your Life"   (by Rewd on 12/31/2008)
January 25th iCON the Mic King faces off against Pack FM in Miami in a half-marathon for Crohn's Disease & Ulcerative Colitis.  People that donate $10 or more get a copy of iCON’s cd "Flavor Ade." This is the soundtrack to the race that has been dubbed “Pack FM vs iCON the Mic King - Who is the fastest rapper”. Donate/Vote here! Follow iCON’s blog as he trains here on ArtofRhyme. Direct Link
Skillz | "2008 Rap Up"   (by andy on 12/31/2008)
I lost interest in the novelty of the annual "Rap Up" a couple of years ago, probably because Skillz has been flipping the same flow since its inception. I'll admit that he brought it this time around though. "And Kanye he went for broke. Maybe the album should have been called 808's and no high notes. Nah he's doing his thing. Is it hard to fight paparazzi when you got on skinny jeans?" Direct Link
Wale ft. Quest | "Chillin (Prod. by Cool & Dre)"   (by andy on 12/30/2008)
2008 was a banner year for Wale. Achievements included a feature on The Roots album, a mixtape inspired by one of America's greatest sitcoms, a spot on the Rock the Bells tour and being named one of XXL's Top 10 Freshmen of 2009. This Cool & Dre produced track is a good way to wrap up a successful year. "Police come around and don't nobody say nothin'. And you be with the cops, ya'll n----z McLovin'." Direct Link
Radix | "Gameday"   (by Rewd on 12/30/2008)
On January 16th 2009 Central, MA based duo Radix (Quite Nyce and SEEK) will be releasing a free EP called "Gameday". The EP is entirely produced by Insight with cuts from one of the most prominent DJ's in the Czech Republic; DJ Trusty. Quite Nyce and SEEK are releasing another group project with Boston based emcee/producer Cadence (Raw Produce) called MonSTAPLEx in the first quarter. The group also has solo projects coming out in 2009. They are planning on touring throughout 2009. January 16th it starts with "Gameday". Direct Link
  k-os | "Zambony"   (by KendredSpirit on 12/30/2008)
If you're not up on k-os, you really don't know what you're missing. Even if you may not like his brand of experimental hip-hop, you gotta respect his boldness especially in today's narrow-minded era. This is one of three joints floating around the 'net from his upcoming fourth album, Yes!, which drops in March '09. Direct Link
Fashawn | "Fortified Live Remix"   (by andy on 12/26/2008)
Given that it's the time where everyone starts to throw out their picks for best of the year, I have to say that one of my favorite mixtapes from 2008 was Fashawn's One Shot One Kill. So I wasn't too disappointed to see that he dropped another mixtape called Higher Learning before his scheduled album with Exile. Here Fashawn takes us back to a song that was supposed to be once in a lifetime like a Halley's comet. Direct Link
Deep Rooted | "Closer"   (by Rewd on 12/25/2008)
We already gave you a sneak peek into Deep Rooted’s self titled album “D.E.E.P. R.O.O.T.E.D.” with "From the Hear". We like the album so much we decided to share another advance track. This one is titled "Closer" and further solidifies the concrete execution of this project.  January 26, 2009 is the date Deep Rooted returns with their new album. Direct Link
Articulate | "Dont Go- Love Story Part 1"   (by Rewd on 12/24/2008)
With so many disposable projects Baltimore-bred MC Articulate seems to have created a respectable EP. “Slave For This Dollar” is a nine song trek into his current frustrations. Check out the versitility he offers by Visiting his myspace for the free DL. Direct Link
Dahlak | "Do It"   (by andy on 12/23/2008)
A few years ago I may have said Dahlak was the second best thing coming out of Sacramento behind the Kings, but now I'll just say he's the best thing coming out of Sacramento. The new mixtape Commencement: A Kanye West Tribute takes Dahlak's favorite songs from Kanye's Graduation and breathes new life into them. You can snatch the mixtape HERE. Direct Link
Deep Rooted ft. Blu | "From the Hear"   (by andy on 12/22/2008)
Deep Rooted's first two albums, A New Beginning and Second Coming, both earned San Diego Music Awards' Best Hip Hop Album honors. (In 2005 and 2006) They'll look to make it three for three on January 27th when they drop D.E.E.P. R.O.O.T.E.D. on Souls of Mischief member Tajai's Clear Label Records. The album features Blu, Killah Priest and Sha Dula, plus production by Exile, Mr. Brady, Moka Only, Rhettmatic and more. Direct Link
The Tones | "Road Again"   (by andy on 12/22/2008)
An educated Hip Hop can often determine an artist's stomping grounds based off their overall sound and other clues such as accents. Anyone that says they can tell The Tones hail from the Bay Area are straight up liars. The duo of Retro and Suhn draw comparisons to Slum Village, Common, Black Star, Little Brother and other acts of that nature. Their debut album Dreamtalk is a true gem and sure to be one of the sleepers of 2008. Direct Link
Blame One ft. Sean Price | "Disturbed"   (by KendredSpirit on 12/20/2008)
Blame One is another in a long line of talented MCs in the rumbling Cali underground scene, not to mention another with a connection to Exile as he will be handling some of the production duties on his upcoming Days Chasing Days album. The album will also feature Black Milk, Blu and Sean Price drops a quick one on "Disturbed." Direct Link
