Elzhi ft. Royce Da 5'9" | "Motown 25" (by KendredSpirit on 05/10/2008)
Euro Pass is a CD released primarily in Europe which chronicles the European tour set of Slum Village's Elzhi. The funny thing is, it's better than most cats' official albums. If his upcoming solo LP sounds anything like this "tour CD", a lot of rappers are in trouble. Copies of Euro Pass have been floating around since April so it may not be news to some of you. In any case the majority of Euro Pass including "Motown 25", a lyrically immaculate tour-de-force featuring two of Detroit's best is produced by Black Milk. Direct Link
Zero Star | "Missing You" (by andy on 05/09/2008)
Every once in a while we have to remind AOR fans why we show so much love to Zero Star, and it's not just his classic blogs. "Missing You" is another lyrical gem worth dissecting. Do yourself a favor and find Zero's album Forever's Never Really That Long or the free mixtape called Take Em Or Erase Em. Also you can read the lyrics to "Missing You" in full at myspace.com/zerostar82. Direct Link
Kidz In the Hall ft. El-P | "Driving Down the Block (El-P Remix)"   (by andy on 05/08/2008)
As of yesterday, Kidz In the Hall debuted on TRL's top 10 countdown at the #6 spot. Not bad for a couple of kids on Duck Down Records. Hopefully Naledge and Double-O's stock will continue to rise and maybe they'll even reach the top spot. El-P produced and performed on what I'll call the Indie cred version of "Driving Down the Block." Direct Link
Little Vic | "Baby It's Good"   (by KendredSpirit on 05/07/2008)
Long Island emcee Little Vic's debut Each Dawn I Die received a very warm critical reception here at AOR (and for good reasons...check "Sister Morphine"). "Baby It's Good" was cut from the album but it's a pretty dope song nonetheless and it's produced by FredNukes, the Danish producer/emcee who has also been featured on AOR. You can check out more music from both artists over at AOR Radio. Direct Link
All Natural | "Move, Move"   (by andy on 05/07/2008)
Veteran Chicago Hip Hop duo All Natural is back with their new album Elements (Fire). Fans of MC Capital D and DJ Tone B. Nimble are aware that the duo employs a variety of sounds and influences, so separate albums represents each of the four elements sounds like a capital idea. (No pun intended) Fire sparks things off and will naturally be the more aggressive of the collection. Direct Link
Ace Hustle | "This Is My Life (Prod. by Oh No)"   (by andy on 05/05/2008)
Here's an early joint from Ace Hustle and Oh No's album which is currently in progress and will hopefully come out later this year. Oh No is a highly sought after producer so for him to co-sign Ace is a quick way to get people to take notice. You can also hit up myspace.com/acehustleandflow for a free download of Ace's new mixtape Play Ya Cards Right. Direct Link
Moe Pope & Headnodic | "Durty" (by KendredSpirit on 05/05/2008)
Buckshot & 9th Wonder recently dropped their second collaborative LP, The Formula. Another duo who needs our undivided attention just as much is Moe Pope & Headnodic whose upcoming album Megaphone is shaping up to be a definite must-have for the summer. "Durty" is an example of the near-perfect marriage of Pope's rhymes and Headnodic's beats. Mark May 13th on your calendars people. Direct Link
Esoteric | "24 Karat Ficion" [aor pick] (by andy on 05/02/2008)
Over the years we've heard MC's rap from the perspective of just about every inanimate object imaginable. Well now you can add a gold chain to that list. "Krs-One, BDP rejected me...PRT straight disprected me. X-Clan did the same thing with a dozen others, including De La Soul and the Jungle Brothers." You can hear Eso's tragic rise and fall of the gold chain on his newest studio album, Esoteric vs. Japan. Direct Link
Pharoahe Monch | "Broken Heart" [aor pick] (by KendredSpirit on 05/01/2008)
Pharoahe Monch's Desire turned a lot of heads in 2007. There's no info as of yet to what project "Broken Heart" will be on (if any) but nevertheless this joint picks up where Desire left off telling a tale of love gone wrong over a smooth guitar-laden beat provided by Mr. Porter. Direct Link
Hustle Simmons (Dave Ghetto & The S Ence) ft. 84 & Fel Sweetenberg | "The Rundown"   (by andy on 05/01/2008)
June is shaping up to be a big month for Dave Ghetto and Break Bread. In fact all of the involved parties show up on this track. 84 is putting out the Ourselves LP, Dave is joined by The S Ence for the Hustle Simmons project and his partner from the Nuthouse days, Fel Sweetenberg, will release the Sweet Days Off Instrumental LP. Just one more reason to love the summer. Direct Link
Blue Scholars | "Butter & Gun$ (Loyalty II)"   (by andy on 04/30/2008)
If you're like me and can never have enough of Sabzi's beats in your life, the next month will be right up your alley. The effect of Blue Scholars' 2007 release Bayani still lingers as Geo and Sabzi drop their second digital release derived from the LP. The Butter & Gun$ EP features the album track "Loyalty", "Butter & Gun$", "27" and instrumentals for all three joints. Two weeks later RA Scion will replace Geo and Common Market will regroup for the Black Patch War EP. Direct Link
Craig G & Marley Marl | "Made the Change"   (by andy on 04/29/2008)
With the help of another 80's pioneer Krs-One, legendary Juice Crew producer Marley Marl already proclaimed that Hip Hop Lives. Now that he found a pulse in the game, Marley will be joined by fellow Juice Crew member Craig G for Operation: Take Back Hip Hop. These two artists have a long history together and are fighting to preserve the artform they helped build. Direct Link
Blueprint | "Check Mate" [aor pick] (by andy on 04/28/2008)
Here's a quote from our Blueprint interview regarding his new Blueprint vs. Funkadelic project: "Around the same time I did the Radiohead project I was discovering Funkadelic's album and in one weekend I started working on the same type of project with their music; putting original rhymes to it. I would've put it out around then but I didn't feel like I had the interludes to bring it together like I did with the Radiohead one, plus I was working on the last Soul Position album at the time. Then luckily about a year ago I started stumbling on some great audio clips and interviews from Funkadelic that really helped me bring it together; quotes from Bootsy Collins and George Clinton."   Smoothe Da Hustler | "Wayback Pioneer" [aor pick] (by KendredSpirit on 04/27/2008)
"I used to be a Public Enemy with criminals runnin' 'round, once mainstream now I'm Digital Underground". That's one of the many potent lines from '90s mainstay Smoothe Da Hustler as he takes it way back with "Wayback Pioneer". Note: Everyone born after 1993 please consult Wikipedia immediately after listening to this joint. Direct Link
Rise | "Never Disappear"   (by andy on 04/23/2008)
Rise first gained attention as the witty, punchline spitting member of the Demigodz, with 12" singles like "Do You Know Him?" and "The Wickedest Flow" bursting with quotables. Although things have been quiet inside the Rise camp of late, he joined forces with DJ/Producer the Avid Record Collector and will drop the Risen LP in the near future. "Never Believe" is dedicated to lost friends, loved ones and artists that live on in spirit. Direct Link
Esoteric ft. Moe Pope | "Real Rap Design" [aor pick] (by andy on 04/22/2008)
With newfound independence and thirst for artistic adventure in tow, Esoteric tapped into what he calls his "Mecha Mecha" style to craft Esoteric vs. Japan. Entirely produced by himself, Eso's second solo LP utilizes Japanese samples from the 70's and 80's. "Real Rap Design" features another Bostonian with an album dropping in May, Moe Pope of Project Move. Direct Link
Nas | "Be A N***** Too"   (by KendredSpirit on 04/22/2008)
One of the most talked about events in recent Hip-Hop is the upcoming release of Nas' controversial album, N*****. The album has been pushed back to a July release but "Be A N***** Too" will undoubtedly keep the streets buzzing. Leave it to Nas to successfully blend Johannesburg killings, Dr. Pepper choruses and calling Eminem a "cracker" into one song. Direct Link
Killah Priest | "I Believe"   (by andy on 04/21/2008)
With his previous album still fresh out of the oven, Killah Priest returns on May 20th with Behind the Stained Glass on Good Hands Records. Priest's The Offerring was one of the more slept-on albums of 2007, which is unfortunate since KP returned to the top form of his earlier Heavy Mental days. The new album strays away from the big-time collaborations to once again shine a light on the Priesthood that won over so many fans. Direct Link
FredNukes | "Conveys An Emotion" [aor pick] (by KendredSpirit on 04/20/2008)
"Start it off with a banger". That's exactly what FredNukes did on Deconstructing Fred with this joint. Keep your eyes open for an in-depth AOR interview with Fred coming soon as he discusses the significance of being the first Danish emcee to rap in english and what that means for his counterparts.  Direct Link
CL Smooth ft. Skyzoo | "Perfect Timing"   (by andy on 04/18/2008)
When I saw a new song by CL Smooth featuring Skyzoo I was optimistic about a new CL album. That thought faded when I found out "Perfect Timing" was from Coalmine Records' new compilation titled Unearthed. Either way, this album certainly has potential with production by M-Phazes (on this track), Marco Polo, Khrysis and Domingo, plus vocals by Kool G. Rap, Large Professor, Torae and more. Direct Link
